Several months ago one of my college friends messaged me and said she was looking for a photographer for her wedding. Of course, I was super excited to be able to photographer her big day. Anna has a great deal of event planning experience so I knew there would be lots of special touches for her wedding day. As with any wedding, I make an effort to capture all the details that are so important to them....things like shoes, rings, flowers, and gifts for attendees. She had so many beautiful details and just a little bit of country (which I love!!) One of my favorite details was based on their wedding song, "God Gave Me You". On the inside of their wedding bands, they had those words inscribed along with their wedding date. Simply beautiful!
And just like at any other wedding, I learned something new. Much to my disappointment, my flash was misfiring at the ceremony. It was super frustrating and I ended up having to run to the local Target store to get a cheap external flash. Needless to say, it was not an ideal situation. But thankfully my many years in photography provided me with a great base for exposures and lighting, and I was able to make it work out in the end. I now have a good backup flash in my arsenal of tools and hopefully that won't ever happen again. After some investigation, I needed to clean some of the connecting pins and that fixed the problem.
I always like to do a variety of artistic editing and then the straightforward stuff that the brides like. Here are some of my fave shots from their big day using a black and white technique that I love:
Their "first look" was so sweet!
There were so many lovely details, a necklace from her grandmother, pretty purple shoes, beautiful sunflowers, and chalkboard mason glasses. Plus they encouraged guests to sign rocks that they will store in a vase in their home. #love
