Kate is 2

Kate's mom and aunt are the best party planners ever! They invited me to photograph Kate's 2nd birthday and wanted to make sure I arrived early so I could capture all the cute decor and food before all the kiddos attacked it. I am so glad I did....holy cuteness!

The theme was Kate's farm. They made adorable cakes, cupcakes, cake pops, and more. They had cow print tablecloths and farm animals everywhere. Each one was hand made and they were all unbelievably cute!

So many cupcakes!

And cakes....

And cake pops...

Once they enjoyed the food, the kids were treated to a petting zoo.

And then the ponies arrived!

And when the animals left, the candles were lit. Kate didn't know what to think of all the singing :)

All the kiddos left with a fun gift too!

Kate is one lucky little girl to have such a talented mom and aunt!
Happy Birthday Kate!

Women's Chamber of Commerce of PBC Scholarship Luncheon

"I want every little girl who's told she's bossy to be told instead that she has leadership skills," Sheryl Sandberg.

It's not always easy to be a woman in business. Despite all the advancements made by women business owners and women business leaders, there is still a long way to go. That's one of the reasons organizations like The Women's Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County are so important. I'm honored to be the official photographer for the Women's Chamber this year! It's my goal to capture all their important events and milestones so that members and supporters can remember all the special moments and details they worked so hard to see to fruition.

My first role as official photographer was to capture their annual scholarship luncheon. Each year the Women's Chamber Foundation provides scholarship to students of all ages and backgrounds who are starting college or returning to college. Scholarships range in amount and some sponsors provide additional components like mentoring, laptops, etc.

This year's scholarship luncheon was held on June 11, 2014 at the beautiful Kravis Center. The event featured Liz Quirantes, News Anchor for CBS 12. Liz shared that this is one of her favorite events because she loves to hear how receiving these scholarship changes the lives of so many women. She also admitted that at least one story each year makes her cry, and this year was no exception. One young lady found herself homeless. She is now living with a member of her church. Despite her struggles, she excels in  school and is a very outgoing, genuine young lady. She is now planning to attend college so she can eventually enjoy a career helping other young women.

The event also featured an amazing speaker, Dr. Christine Jax Vice President of Academic Affairs, Anthem Education Group. Dr. Jax is a very spunky lady. She is the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Anthem Education Group where she oversees academic operations, curriculum development, library services, V.A. Operations, and accreditation for 38 campuses nationwide. One of her career highlights was being hired by Jesse Ventura, Governor of Minnesota, to be Commissioner of Education for the state of Minnesota from 1999-2003. She shared some great stories about her experiences working for this well-known Governor and how she got hired despite not having nearly the credentials of her competitors.

Finally, all the scholarship were handed out. Each recipient had the chance to share a few words and many of the recipients were overwhelmed and excited to the point of tears. It was very touching! Congratulations to all the recipients. And congratulations to the committee for putting on another wonderful event!

"Some leaders are born women"  ~ Geraldine Ferraro

I had the pleasure of being invited to photograph the inaugural Executive Women of the Palm Beaches' Leadership Institute. This fantastic day-long program featured a variety of opportunities for women to learn and grow as leaders.

They started the day with breakfast and a great speaker, Sharon Hadary, who is the Principal of Sharon Hadary & Co. Founding and former Executive Director, Center for Women’s Business Research, Adjunct Professor, Doctor of Management Program, University of Maryland University College Presenting research on Creating a Bold and Integrated Leadership Model. Following Sharon's speech, a panel of great business leaders shared their thoughts on women in business. Panelists included: Kelly Smallridge, Business Development Board of Palm Beach County, Inc.; Beth Kigel, Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce; Earnie Ellison Jr., PGA of America; Melissa Mickle, PNC Financial Services Group; and Craig Grant, PNC.

After lunch, attendees could choose from one of three breakout sessions. In the breakout sessions they could learn some great leadership techniques from women who are leaders in their respective fields. Attendees got some time to network with each other as well.

During lunch, attendees had the amazing opportunity to hear Ann Rhoades speak. She is the Founding Executive Vice President of People, JetBlue Airways; President, People Ink and Best-selling Author, Built on Values: Creating an Enviable Culture that Outperforms the Competition.

Following the luncheon, more breakout sessions were held and then a unique segment called "Living Libraries" gave attendees the chance to sit in small groups with an expert in a field (over 25 to choose from) and ask in-depth questions.

It was an amazing day and was very well organized for a first time event. The event was sponsored by PNC and was organized by Executive Women of the Palm Beaches. It will hopefully be an annual event held in October of each year.

Alan ~ Welcome to the world and Merry Christmas

"Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful."  ~ Norman Vincent Peale

I love Christmas! It's such a magical time of year. Now imagine how much more magical it would be if you were blessed to have a baby during the holidays! Born only a few weeks before Christmas, Alan was a sweet, and sometimes cranky, baby boy whom I had the privilege of photographing. He was absolutely gorgeous...with sweet little fingers and toes and big blue eyes. His mom had a fabulous friend who made him several crocheted hats and outfits, each one more cute than the next.

Unfortunately, little Alan didn't like to be naked for too long, nor did he like wearing outfits other than his comfy, little, striped monkey onesie. Despite that, we got some great photos of him and I got to spend a couple of hours enjoying his cuteness! I seem to have a knack for soothing crying babies...not sure where that comes from but I'm okay with it :)

P.S. Did I mention he was named after the astronaut Donald Alan Thomas? Did I mentioned I have always been a space/NASA nut? Apparently I was meant to cross paths with this little baby!

p.s. If you are thinking about getting newborn portraits done, keep in mind that the best time to do them is within their first fifteen days. That's when they sleep more, and they are still really flexible so we can pose them in cute little newborn poses.
